6 Ups & 4 Downs From Last Night's NXT (Jan 15)

On the one hand, if you've got an evening of professional wrestling bangers in store for everyone then it's probably an idea not to open the show with a momentum-sapping promo. On the other though, if you really feel like you have to give someone a mic to open the broadcast, you might as well make it your most over star, keep it all under two minutes, then spark a massive brawl.

While there's a growing criticism that NXT only has one speed setting since its move to the USA Network (AND IT'S AAAAH EXCITEMENT, ADRENALINE AAAAAH), it's not really a problem if it's being used correctly. The lack of genuinely captivating talkers on the brand should be something they look to remedy in 2020 but, until they do, letting everyone do the talking with their fists is probably the safest option.

It'll all get repetitive in the long-run, but a weak, awkward promo does more damage to a feud's build than the sight of wrestlers doing what wrestlers are paid to do. Let Adam Cole have as much time as he wants with the stick, but definitely have him interrupt anybody who wants a right of reply.
