6 Ups & 4 Downs From Last Night's NXT (Jan 15)
5. The Broserweights
When NXT announced the return of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic two huge problems immediately jumped out about it. 1) The inclusion of NXT UK, a brand they've done precisely nothing to make people care about for over a year and 2) NXT doesn't actually have any tag teams. How long ago those problems feel today.
If we should have learned anything from Bálor / Joe, and Ricochet / Black, it's that the hastily thrown together single-star tag teams are usually the best thing about this tournament. In Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne (who should really have been called Joint Manipulation, ey lads) they've perfected the formula. Two men with seemingly no connection, but undeniably natural chemistry in both their in-ring work and their gimmicks.
Their first-round match against the hugely impressive Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster stole the show last night, and regardless what the plans originally might have been they must surely now head all the way to the final. There's honestly years in this partnership, both as a team and then eventually as rivals, and whoever's idea this was should be bought their own private island.
