6 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE Elimination Chamber 2024

1. Homeland Pop, No Fire

As a moment, seeing Indi Hartwell wrestle in front of her fellow Australians was heartwarming. You’d have to be a callous bastard to not appreciate that.

But as a match, Indi and Candice LeRae’s challenge against the Kabuki Warriors was hardly a threat to the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. They wisely kept the match basic, with LeRae eating the bulk of Asuka and Kairi Sane’s offense and struggling to make it to her corner before finally getting the hot tag to Hartwell.

And that’s where the problem revealed itself. Normally when someone gets a hot tag, they’re the proverbial “house afire,” frantically attacking both heels with furious offense, whipping fans into a frenzy.

After building to the moment where Indi got the big tag in her first WWE PLE (non-Royal Rumble) match – in her home country, no less – Hartwell delivered some extremely basic clotheslines, a double-noggin knocker and an ugly looking low crossbody. The crowd was behind Indi, but if you muted your TV, there was no real fire, no “snap” to her hot tag. Hartwell didn’t even really play to the crowd during a segment that lasted less than 45 seconds.

The entire match was built on Indi’s hot tag, and it fell far short of being a moment in itself. It might be a bit pedantic (to borrow Michael Sidgwick’s word) but it needs to be noted and called out as a negative.
