3. El Grande Gag Played Out

WWE Raw Los Americanos El Grande Americano

The El Grande Americano and Los Americanos gag has been perverted and stretched out far beyond its original expiration date, but it’s also understandable if some fans are still enjoying Ludwig Kaiser, Tyler Bate, and Pete Dunne running around in luchador masks.

But the gimmicks at this point simply exist on a treadmill, running in place with no direction, no forward motion, and no destination in sight. Even for being as deliberate (read: slow) a booker as Triple H is with many storylines, you can often at least see where things are headed. With the trio of masked Americanos, it’s not clear that there’s any plan for them.

El Grande tangled with Penta Monday night, with El Zero Miedo needing to get back in the win column after losing his feud to Dominik Mysterio. The two had a perfectly fine match, with Los Americanos getting caught interfering on El Grande's behalf. But Penta overcame the three-on-one chicanery to pick up the win, and then he managed to escape when Rayo and Bravo converged on him.

Good on Penta getting the win and not falling further down the ladder, but this masked trio act is really getting played out. It only seems to work when El Grande is serving as Dominik Mysterio’s lifeline. At least then, it’s somewhat intriguing as to why Americano is constantly bailing Mysterio out of tight spots.
