6 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE NXT Spring Breakin' (23 April - Results & Review)

2. Women Hit The Gas Pedal

Heading into the NXT Women’s Championship triple threat match, it was pretty obvious that everyone understood their roles: Lyra Valkyria was the aggrieved former champ, Roxanne Perez was the conniving heel champion, and Tatum Paxley was there to be creepy and eat the loss.

And true to form, everyone played their part in an all-action match whose finish was signposted the minute it was announced. Paxley ate a ton of offense, mainly from Lyra, while Perez played defense a lot to break up pinfall attempts. Valkyria dominated large parts of the match by taking on both women simultaneously, but she ultimately fell victim to Tatum’s 450 splash – which was impressive. Roxanne, however, was there to grab a jackknife cover on Paxley to retain.

Say what you will about Roxy’s overacting and uneven heel act, but when the bell rings, she’s still pretty damn good at turning it on, and she’s gradually ramping up the villainous tendencies in her matches, which is a positive development in and of itself.
