6 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE NXT Spring Breakin' (23 April - Results & Review)

UPS…

6. Goofy, But Elevating

One of the strange crutches NXT sometimes relies on during these big shows is bringing back alumni for cameos, as if main roster superstars are just waiting with bated breath to show up and offer their thoughts on the latest in developmental.

Still, having the likes of Johnny Gargano, Creed Brothers, Ivy Nile and New Catch Republic show up in person, as well as having numerous other superstars weighing in via social media, added a sense of heft to the night. It was cheesy as hell, with people chanting, “Whoop that Trick!” and the like, but having everyone giving their take gave a big-fight feel to the main event, that everyone was watching and invested.

Of course, NXT can’t do this all the time – it would very quickly become hackneyed and silly – but this worked OK on the night, mostly due to Gargano’s pump-up of Trick just before the main event. That pep talk alone justified bringing in the alumni for spot appearances, and the Creeds going crazy at ringside during the main event only helped matters.
