Downs…

4. Strange Motivations

The WarGames advantage match is almost cliché at this point, but it’s a necessary plot device to establish which team will have a two-on-one, three-on-two, and so forth advantage during the double cage match.

Bianca Belair tangled with Nia Jax in a pretty decent main event that showcased some of the EST’s power game in an effective fashion. But the finish was a strange turn. With Belair on the outside and the ref administering the count, Nia climbed on the turnbuckle to celebrate and Bayley ran in and pulled her down, with Jax hitting an exposed buckle. That gave Bianca the opening to hit a 450 splash for the win.

There are a couple of things “wrong” with this: two babyfaces conspired (Belair saw Bayley’s interference) to cheat to defeat the heel champion, who got pinned as a result; and the win gave the face team the advantage for WarGames, which is the reverse of what almost always happens, for obvious reasons.

As a result, you’re left confused about motivations here. There was no reason for Bayley to interject. She wasn’t balancing the scales due to heel interference. If she’s trying to prove her worth, neutralizing Tiffany Stratton would make more sense rather than blatantly cheating. It came off odd, but there’s clearly another side to this coin, which will get some shine in a bit.
