2. ‘We Want Truth’

Dominik Mysterio The Miz

In a match between two-time Grand Slam Champion The Miz and heat magnet Dominik Mysterio, the most popular wrestler was… R-Truth?

In a “sad but true” moment, the crowd opened this Miz/Mysterio match chanting, “We want Truth!”, and then sitting on their hands for large portions of this bout. The match itself was not exactly something you’d call good, with Miz whiffing completely on a few kicks and having to be placed on the second rope for a 619, and Dirty Dom stumbling in a couple spots.

Surprisingly, Mysterio had zero of his nuclear heat here, with fans treating him like any regular heel. That’s something that bears tracking, as last week he and JD McDonagh got a great reaction as the heel tag foils for #DIY. But here, Dominik might as well have been Generic Heel #37. Just a subpar match that set up a Judgment Day beatdown for a #DIY save that got a tepid response itself.

The match wasn’t helped by Michael Cole fawning over Miz’s springboard crossbody – a move he’s busted out nearly every match since turning babyface a couple months ago – and asking if Wade Barrett had ever seen him do that before. Look, it’s great Miz is trying with his offense again, but let’s stop pretending that he’s some kind of in-ring savant. Some of his kicks looked like a bad B-movie action sequence when the stuntmen were unavailable.
