6 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE Raw (Results & Review - 9 Oct)
3. Finish The Story?
When Cody Rhodes captured the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship at Fastlane, some snarky fans joked that the American Nightmare had finished the story he sought to complete when he returned to WWE.
Of course, that’s not the story – or the title – Rhodes was referring to, but that was the point of the gag. WWE, however, picked that ball up and ran with it a bit on Monday, pitting Michael Cole as the antagonist in all this. Cole prodded Cody in an in-ring interview numerous times about whether the tag titles would distract him from pursuing the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, even suggesting that Rhodes might be afraid of trying against for fear of failing again.
Cody never got to answer the question, but he definitely looked a bit perturbed – or even worried – at one point, adding a wrinkle to the story. It’s clear that WWE isn’t dropping that ball, and this new title reign alongside Jey Uso should factor into the tale. Could Cody’s quest impact their tag title reign?
Rhodes is going to have to find his way back to Roman Reigns, but this crept a bit of doubt into things, or at the very least put the onus on Cody to state his intentions clearly.
