6 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (4 Sept - Results & Review)
2. A Nothing Rematch & Post-Match Angle
Tiffany Stratton vs. Nia Jax is a match up WWE fans have witnessed one million times over the past few years. It used to be a vibrant title scenario, but now it’s simply filler lasting less than 3 minutes and doing nothing for either woman. Honestly, this latest chapter didn’t add anything to this week’s SmackDown, or to the title business involving Jax and Chelsea Green.
Also, the post-match bit with Nia ripping off Green’s face mask then just tossing it down and backing away once Chelsea entered the ring was…weird. Why did they even bother with any of that? Nia and her pal Lash Legend had Green right where they wanted her, and she'd just been cleared for action. They easily could've shown themselves to be clever heels by handing the mask back to Chels, waiting on her to put it back on then attacking.
That would've at least shown some smarts from The Irresistible Forces, but no. They did literally the most dumb thing they could by seizing the mask, dancing around with it like it was a winning lottery ticket, then throwing it down and retreating. Who were they retreating from? A champion that Jax believes she could beat any day of the week? That doesn't make any sense.
All of this boiled down to a colossal bit of time-killing by WWE's writers. The doc clearance fare with Green shouldn't have happened, and neither should Tiffany rushing out for the save before getting squashed like she's on her way out of the company.
