As good as some of the Under Siege qualifying bouts have been, you must question the kayfabe booking decisions behind them.
Matt Cardona vs. Brian Myers didn’t need a rematch right after Rebellion. Their pay-per-view bout was stellar, sure, but that’s because it was a pay-per-view outing. They had to go the extra mile on such a stage. They didn’t quite hit that note on last night’s show.
Furthermore, Sami Callihan vs. Eddie Edwards main evented the episode, and while the match and aftermath were both decent, it happened so soon after their supposed ‘final match’ at Hard To Kill. There’s no topping a Barbed Wire Massacre.
The inclusion of Rohit Raju and Rhino in the brackets also brings an air of confusion, seeing as neither man has done anything recent that earns their spot. Raja was a cracking X Division Champion last year, but he’s sunk so far down the card since dropping it in December. Rhino, meanwhile, is only relevant because of Violent By Design, plus, he’s got the Call Your Shot trophy. He didn’t even need this match.
Again, some alright matches so far with Chris Bey vs. Jake Something being arguably the best way to kick off this mini-tournament, but from a kayfabe perspective, you can’t overlook some of these match bookings.
