6. Iyo Gets Her Win Back

Lyra Valkyria’s run in the Queen of the Ring tournament was a praiseworthy storyline, giving the recent NXT call-up a solid run out of the gate and some notable wins, including one over former SmackDown Women’s Champion Iyo Sky.

Since that loss, Iyo has been brooding and becoming more and more irate, finally boiling over last week and attacking Lyra backstage. Monday night, Sky got her revenge, picking up a win against Valkyria – with some help from her Damage CTRL partners. The match wasn’t quite on par with their previous one, but it tied nicely to Iyo’s increasing aggression and frustration, taking whatever means were necessary to get her win back, even if it meant relying on outside interference.

The post-match beatdown served as a reminder that Becky Lynch is no longer there to back Lyra up, a mentor who vanished after a title match loss and hasn't been seen since. That brief period before Kayden Carter and Katana Chance arrived could be the impetus for Valkyria lashing out at Lynch, should Becky return.

Even discounting all of that, this was a nice way to keep Lyra and Iyo as central focuses and give four other women something to do on TV away from any title picture. That’s a victory in and of itself.
