6 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (11 Sept)
1. Six-Man Gold
There is no denying the wrestling acumen of Imperium, Alpha Academy and Tommaso Ciampa. All six men bring the goods between the ropes in terms of grappling and entertainment.
Therefore, it’s no shock that a six-man tag between them ruled six ways to Sunday. More than the match though, the angle setting it up brought Ciampa into the mix in a very simple – but believable – way: Tommaso was told to “seize the moment” and decided there was no bigger moment than interjecting himself into Gunther’s business. They didn’t have to fudge a friendship, just mutual respect and mutual disdain for the Ring General.
Gable wanting to get back to another Intercontinental Championship match and then picking up the submission victory was a nice shortcut, but there was also the parallel of Ciampa putting Gunther in the Sicilian Stretch to prevent him from saving. It’s very possible that the IC champion turns his attention to Tommaso first because of this rather than giving Gable another chance.
And after watching that match, you can just see more match permutations falling out of this one. It could make for some fun television, and it might raise some people’s profiles a bit while they’re at it.
