6 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (11 Sept)

2. Jey Has Work To Do

When Cody Rhodes announced at Payback that Jey Uso was returning to WWE as part of the Raw roster after a grueling three weeks away from the company, there was a legit fear that the company would just have Uso become part of the scenery on Monday nights.

Instead, Jey has been met with side glances and outright dirty looks, with several superstars telling him they don’t trust him due to all his transgressions as part of the Bloodline the past few years.

Good. That’s a totally normal reaction. Kevin Owens, Drew McIntyre and Matt Riddle not trusting him and confronting him upon his return is a very reasonable response, and it adds an air of realism to the product.

It also helps drive the storyline, with the Judgment Day making a full-court press to try to recruit Main Event Jey as the rest of the roster isolates him. Knowing how Uso has always been part of a tag team or stable, it stands to reason that he could very well fall back into another group, especially if the entire roster is gunning for him.

But that also allows fans to root for him to win over KO, McIntyre and the like, and hopefully gain their trust. That makes for interesting TV each week, to see what unfolds in his quest to stand on his own two feet. Fans are getting that first test next week with McIntyre facing Uso, and there likely will be more to come.
