6 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (29 May - Results & Review)

3. Cody Calls Out Brock

There definitely is something admirable about the virtuous babyface refusing to back down from a bigger, more dangerous villain who already has wounded you.

And while the Cody Rhodes/Brock Lesnar feud has its problems, we will give a small “up” for Rhodes’ delivery and ability to keep fans on his side during some questionable booking. Call the Cody/Brock rivalry a distraction from “finishing the story” or just a new challenge or form of adversity for our hero to endure, but it definitely could have played out with Rhodes as WWE Champion.

Still, after seeing the low point immediately after WrestleMania 39, Rhodes has done yeoman’s work to keep fans invested in him as a character and in his journey, as they could have just jettisoned him after he fell short at Mania. Monday’s promo was another in a string of them that kept the crowd on his side and kept the energy high for what comes next.

After all, an open challenge to Lesnar is pretty bold, as is calling him “afraid.” So we’ll give Cody his positive marks here for keeping us on the hook, even if it’s not this writer’s first choice for a story.
