6 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (April 11)

3. Finally! We Got An Explanation We Were Owed

One of WWE’s favorite tropes to pull out during a heel turn is for the villain to tell the audience, “I don’t owe you fans an explanation!” It’s a lazy plot device that avoids the need for any logical storytelling, which means WWE uses it constantly.

So when MVP told Bobby Lashley that he was owed an explanation for betraying him last week, you could have knocked this writer over with a stiff breeze.

MVP explained that when he came back to WWE in 2020, Lashley was floundering, letting a “sawed-off runt” (Lio Rush) and “some wannabee TikTok star” (Lana) lead him astray. He put Bobby on the map and made him championship material, but now Lashley doesn’t need him anymore and wouldn’t share his WrestleMania spotlight. But Omos does need him.

The scary thing is that latter part of the rationale makes perfect sense in reality too: Lashley is capable of delivering a decent promo on his own, and if he’s a babyface anyway, he doesn’t need a heel manager. But Omos desperately needs someone to guide him through this stage of his career.

So yeah, logical storytelling!
