6 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (April 18)

2. A Different Way Of Speaking

WWE has a distinct style of promos that they beat into their superstars, having them all conform to the same style to the point where a lot of times they’re almost interchangeable.

So it was hugely refreshing to hear Cody Rhodes deliver a promo against Seth Rollins Monday night and still retain a different cadence and style that still somehow meshed with the Drip God. Cody played to the fans, used bigger words, spoke in a different manner, but – and here’s the important part – it still worked.

WWE would have you believe that you need everyone not just singing from the same hymnal, but the same hymn as well. And if they’re not doing that, they’re doing it wrong.

It’ll be interesting to see how long WWE lets Cody continue to deliver his promos the same way without forcing him to conform.
