6 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (Results & Review - January 29)

Ups…

6. Lemons Out Of Lemonade

CM Punk Drew McIntyre
WWE

As bad as the news about CM Punk was for WWE and its fans, the company did what it could to make some hay out of a crappy moment Monday night.

Drew McIntyre continued his aggressive, angry tear through the roster, tamping down his rage long enough to gloat at Punk’s misfortune, noting that he was “never much of a spiritual person, but I prayed for this and it happened.” McIntyre said that despite being eliminated from the Royal Rumble by Punk, he won the war because he was still standing and was going to find a way to WrestleMania to live Punk’s dream of main-eventing the big show.

That’s when the Scottish Warrior’s rage took over and he attacked Punk, targeting the torn triceps before Sami Zayn could chase him off.

Given how outspoken he’d been since Punk’s return, McIntyre was the perfect person to revel in the Straight Edge Superstar’s injury and try to catapult himself into the main event scene off of it. Whether that works will remain an open question, but this was probably the best outcome here.
