When it comes to picking an opponent for a featured superstar’s return match, you want to make sure you have the right person to help accomplish your goal.

In the case of Johnny Gargano’s singles match debut on Raw, you knew WWE wanted to showcase his in-ring skills to their fullest. Enter: Chad Gable.

Gable and Gargano had a great TV match where the outcome never really was in doubt – they weren’t beating Johnny Wrestling in his big spotlight bout – but both men worked at alternating rhythmic and frantic paces, exchanging mat wrestling holds, dominating the other, going into overdrive for the finish. It sucked the fans in completely and made Gargano look like a huge deal, while Gable once again looked like a wizard in the ring.

Great stuff from Gable and Gargano, with the video package beforehand giving fans a bit more background on Johnny to make it a bit more meaningful.
