6 Ups & 6 Downs From AEW Dynamite (23 Oct)

1. Cody's Revenge Falls Flat

Cody Rhodes Blood
AEW

AEW easily could've milked Cody's 'eye of the tiger' story through until Full Gear at the earliest. Instead, they decided to bring him back to top form on this Saturday special and put him over arch nemesis Malakai Black; the loss leaves Black cold and puts All Elite's bookers in a tough position.

Fans booed the p*ss out of Rhodes.

They rejected him hard, and that meant the big babyface moment at the end of Dynamite fell flat. Think Lex Luger back at SummerSlam 1993...but with less merriment. Seriously, people didn't dig Cody roaring back to beat Malakai, and they wanted Tony Khan to know it.

Christ knows where the tale goes from here too. Black has been beaten, Rhodes isn't jiving with the core audience, and neither man has anything to do heading into the next pay-per-view. In retrospect, this main event needed a rethink.
