6 Ups & 6 Downs From Kane's WWE Career
Downs...
6. The Modern Demon
The recent Team Hell No reunion was a success, with Kane coming back to save old friend Daniel Bryan from the Bludgeon Brothers ahead of Extreme Rules 2018, drawing a natural, organic crowd response from an audience conditioned to expect predictable contrivances.
It re-positioned Kane as the straight man in a comedy act. A perfect role for this stage in his career, because at 51 years old, after all the tedious bullsh*t the company have put him through, it's tough to take him seriously as anything else. Unfortunately, that hasn't stopped WWE from trying several times since The Authority dissolved.
'The Demon' is the pits. You can't portray an old, rusty stiff as a threat when he can't carry himself like one anymore, and Kane's diminished physical state undermined every "rub" he was supposed to give. Each moment he spent on-screen was a depressing reminder of the character he used to be, and the likes of Luke Harper and Seth Rollins saw no benefit from working with him.
Feuding with Braun Strowman in late 2017/early 2018 did nothing but halt 'The Monster Among Men' and his awesome momentum. It stunk, but should hopefully be the last we see of this version of Kane.
