Women's Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch is still one of the best wrestlers on WWE’s roster, but she really has not been able to ply her trade to the best of her ability for quite some time.

In the past six months heading into Monday, Lynch had had nine televised matches. Five of them were against Maxxine Dupri, and two were against AJ Lee, meaning all seven of her singles matches were largely carry jobs by Becky.

Monday night, Lynch issued an open challenge and had a real fight on her hands (in the best possible way) against Iyo Sky. Both women seemed to revel in getting plenty of TV time to empty the tank, trading control, countering each other’s signatures, and coming close to ending the match on several occasions.

Sky landed a sunset bomb on Lynch, but she would come back with a superplex and DDT combo. A Manhandle Slam was countered with a rollup, and then Iyo whiffed on a head kick but hit a rebound thrust kick, followed by a butterfly backbreaker for two. Her moonsault hit knees, though, and Lynch landed the Manhandle for a close two count.

Asuka would cost Iyo the match, but 95% of this was great fun, a reminder that Lynch still can have a really, really good match, and Sky is much more than Rhea Ripley’s sidekick. Mission accomplished.
