6. Consequences

The match between the IIconics and Riott Squad was nothing to write home about. In fact, it was dull and useless.

However, the match carried something so many bouts on WWE programming doesn’t: consequences. The IIconics lost, and they were forced to disband. Considering how close Billie Kay & Peyton Royce are, it actually gave it weight.

But this match also came out of nowhere, with the same match taking place on the Payback Kickoff Show with the same result. It wasn’t set up by anything other than a graphic early on and a backstage interview with Kay and Royce. How hard would it have been to use this week to have the four women at each other’s throats and the gauntlet thrown down for this do-or-die match the following week? Build to something rather than it popping up out of nowhere.

As with many things with WWE, it was 2 steps forward and 1.5 steps back. One small change could have made this work a lot better.
