6 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE Raw (March 7)

1. An Abrupt Character Change

Edge is a total dork

When Edge waffled AJ Styles with two vicious ConChairTos last week, it signalled a heel turn we haven’t seen from the Rated-R Superstar in a very long time. The question that remained was how Edge would address this turn and justify the sudden shift in character.

What we got Monday night was a complete overhaul, right down to the entrance being changed up and Edge’ entire presentation. He wore a black suit with his typically unkempt hair pulled back in a ponytail, illuminated by a black spotlight.

Edge said he attacked Styles to bring out the “pitbull” in him for WrestleMania, and that in turn, AJ bought out a part of himself that he had “never met before” and “fallen in love with.” Edge talked about feeling in control and then closed saying that standing “on the mountain of omnipotence” leaves him with a phenomenal view.

The promo made little sense and didn’t explain the drastic change. So he beat up AJ and it unleashed a part of him that dresses and talks differently and enjoys inflicting pain? Sure, maybe. But this really strained credulity.
