6 Ups & 7 Downs From WWE Raw (April 24 - Review)
3. Retconning A Reason For Rollins
Wrestling fans were likely confused and/or amused by the graphic last week declaring that Seth Rollins was facing Omos at Backlash next month with literally no buildup or story. It was a very un-WWE thing to do, so you had to hope they’d explain it somehow on Raw.
And then we got our explanation: MVP requested the match for his monster, pitting Omos against someone Porter respects to really put the Nigerian Giant on the map.
That’s not an unreasonable move for a manager looking to advance their charge’s career. Why not go to management and pitch a big money match out of the blue? You don’t need to have a fake reason to fight all the time. Sometimes, just wanting to push yourself is enough of a motivation to make things work.
And from there, it wasn’t a stretch for Rollins to fire up and threaten to bounce Omos’ head off the mat with a stomp or three. Things are still rooted in competition rather than a storyline, which is more than fine here. And the match itself should be a spectacle.
