6 Ups And 1 Down From Last Night's NXT (29th Apr)

NXT

There is nothing happening in NXT right now beyond the Cruiserweight Tournament. Not really, anyway.

All the other Championships feel like they're treading water at the moment; either putting on good matches that lack an angle, or just trying to draw out an angle without any matches. Not here though, in this tournament, we've been getting plenty of both. Add to that the brand-new match combinations it's delivering every week, and it's already been a real highlight of 2020.

In amongst its many subplots is the arrival in NXT of El Hijo de Fantasma who has, smartly, not been allowed to steamroller any of the men in his bracket. Last week he beat 'Peaky Blinders' Jack Gallager in a surprisingly even match and, this week, he actually fell short against Isaiah 'Swerve' Scott. This is not a burial, this is not killing him momentum, this is intriguing.

Group B's going down to the wire, and NXT has done a good job disguising the booking here. There's only one round left of matches but you'd happily watch this play out all the way through May.
