6 Ups And 1 Down From Last Night's WWE NXT (June 29)
5. A Fight Between Friends
Two weeks ago, Finn Balor's address to the NXT Universe was interrupted by Shinsuke Nakamura. Nakamura told Balor that in order to prove himself in NXT, he had to beat the brand's icon - namely, Balor. The two shook hands, indicating that the match was on.
This week, sit-down interviews with each man were aired, and they were well-conducted. First up was Nakamura, who obviously doesn't speak English as a first language, but still has an acuity with the language. He talked about being friends with Balor in Japan and watching him come to NXT, then promised the match between the two would be "sensational." Nakamura's promo was great, because even when he was trying to think of what to say, he came off as more detached than lost, and he's always a bit detached.
Balor was good, too - he often suffers during backstage promos, but simply speaking from the heart about how he and Nakamura were friends and knew each other's families was easy enough. Real programs always resonate, and this is no exception.
