6 Ups And 1 Down From WWE NXT (24 Jun)

1. Lee Before You

Easily one of the most fascinating combinations in recent NXT memory, Finn Balor, Johnny Gargano and Kieth Lee squared (triangled?) off for both the NXT North American Championship and, also, a shot at Adam Cole's NXT Championship. Given that neither title picture has felt all that interesting in recent months, this was a huge direction for the brand to go in.

Despite a number of questions hanging over the narrative logic of some of this, the strength of talent involved here meant, however we got there, the match itself would be worth it. Good lord, was it worth it.

Inevitably, Lee's physical domination meant that Balor and Gargano reluctantly worked together to take him out, before putting on a mini-thriller between them while the reigning champion was incapacitated. After they did NXT's greatest camera spot again (you know the one I'm talking about, where Lee appears behind Balor in a poetic recreation of me just trying to get on with this job despite the crippling anxiety caused by the current apocalypse), Lee managed to overcome both men for the win.

We were never likely to get a shock here, and the smart money is on Kross having the forthcoming Winner Takes All match thrown out to "make a statement" but it's nonetheless provided a much-needed boost for the alleged top of the card.
