6 Ups And 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (May 18)
4. Rage In The Cage
Though it was old news to fans who follow NXT developments on the Internet, the show aired a clip package showing exactly what had transpired between Samoa Joe and Finn Balor during the week, and how NXT General Manager William Regal responded.
Last Saturday in Portland, Joe defended the NXT Championship against Finn Balor in a non-televised match. Though Joe came out victorious, Balor wasn't satisfied. The two men continued to fight, engaging in such a major brawl that Regal led the rest of the roster out from the locker room to pull them apart. Even when Joe was restrained, Balor kept things going by diving out of the ring onto the NXT Champion.
That led to a live Facebook announcement on Tuesday, where Regal (flanked by Joe and Balor) announced that their main event at TakeOver: Revenge would be the first steel cage match in NXT history. A furious Joe signed the contract first, all while guaranteeing that Balor would not emerge victorious. The challenger followed as Joe stormed off, making the match official.
