6 Ups And 2 Downs From NJPW Best Of The Super Juniors 24

1. A 5-Star Finale

OSPREAY KUSHIDA III

I criticised the ending of this year's BOSJ because of its predictability, but boy oh boy, did that final have me on the edge of my seat.

In order to claim his redemption, KUSHIDA would have to go through BOSJ 23's winner, Will Ospreay. Both men had been the in-ring MVPs of their blocks, so their clash in the final was destined to be good. I'm not sure anyone realised how good it would actually be.

Ospreay was bleeding from the mouth after just a few minutes, foreshadowing what would be far from his spot-fest matches of the past. Everything he did from that point had an extra hint of violence to it, culminating in his repeated 'Cheeky Nandos' superkicks, each one landing flush on KUSHIDA's chin. Eventually it took two of Kushida's package suplex finishers, one from the turnbuckle, to keep Ospreay down. You may have gone into the match impartial about who should win, but both men stated their cases loud and clear.

Currently we're waiting on Lord Meltzer's verdict, but the majority of fans are viewing the match as five stars. The perfect end to stellar tournament.
