6 Ups And 3 Downs From Last Night's NXT (June 3)
3. You Cruiserweight All Day For A Bus, And Two Come Along At Once
All I wanted out of this Crusierswight Championship Tournament was for it to give its participants a launching pad to do something substantial on the brand. Virtually everyone involved was a semi-regular face on the show who would come in, have a good-to-great match, and then not be seen again for a few weeks. They never had a story.
And while the biggest story of the tournament has been rancid, the smaller ones look like being quietly effective. 3 months ago, Tony Nese vs Isaiah 'Swerve' Scott would have been a 10-minute-at-best entertaining non-entity, and we wouldn't have seen either of them again for a month. Now, there's a rivalry there that led to a frankly brutal match.
Stiff strikes, shoot holds, a throw into the ring steps that would have made Nia Jax wince, this was so much more than some filler TV match. Adding in the interference from Peak Blinders Ed Sheeran, and there are stories to be told coming out of that tournament.
