6 Ups And 3 Downs From WWE NXT (Aug 24)
1. Legado's Victory Hits All The Wrong Notes
With weeks of simmering tension, brawls, grillz ripped from gobs, and masks burned in bins, all signs pointed to another dramatic entry into the Legado del Fantasma/Hit Row saga in this week's main event.
And, for the most part, the units delivered just that, with Top Dolla and Ashante 'Thee' Adonis both seizing the spotlight with some eye-catching offence; Adonis' monkey flips are a thing of beauty, and what more can we say about a dude of Dolla's size sentoning off the steps onto the rest of the field?
However, away from these scintillating performances, a largely enjoyable affair was unfortunately blighted by a messy finish. As B-FAB (a part of the supposed babyface unit here?) attempted to cost Legado the match by ramming Santos Escobar into the steel post, Elektra Lopez suddenly showed up on the scene and delivered a lead pipe special delivery to the Hit Row mouthpiece's gut.
This then played into a finish which saw the pipe introduced into the bout, only for Isaiah 'Swerve' Scott to get rolled up by his nemesis Escobar for the "shock" victory. The key issue here is the fact that what should've been a vicious chapter in this ongoing tale, so important that it earned itself main event billing, was quickly rendered an afterthought and entirely pointless thanks to the cheapest of finishes.
Sure, it keeps the programme going and means the odds are evened slightly, but had they really been that much of an issue for Legado leading up to this point anyway? What could've been a cool scalp for Swerve en-route to carving out his North American Championship legacy is fast becoming a bit of a slog. Hopefully we get to the title match pay-off sooner rather than later, and Lopez is given more to do than just being the group's answer to B-FAB for this one-off feud.
