Until the main event climaxed, fans were left wondering if Sami Zayn’s fate was already sealed.

Zayn met backstage with Roman Reigns earlier in the night to discuss his conversation with Kevin Owens on SmackDown. Sami came clean about the chat but pledged his loyalty to the Bloodline.

Reigns got up and offered a hug, which Sami accepted. The camera caught Roman’s expression changing just as the segment ended. If you’ve paid attention to similar situations in the past, Reigns has done this, “Everything’s OK” deal before, and then followed by blasting the victim. If you remembered that, you now had an extra layer of worry for Sami.

As we saw later, there was nothing to worry about, but the segment helped heighten the tension and doubt heading into the main event, which is exactly what you want.
