6 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's NXT (22 Apr)

2. Dreams Become Reality

Velveteen Dream
NXT

Velveteen Dream has pinned Adam Cole. This is, honestly, the first thing of any substance that has happened around the NXT Championship since... what?... TakeOver Portland?... in February.

Since then it's been idle talk, stories that don't centre around the belt, and a series of (literally) phoned-in video packages from the side of Adam Cole's pool. This isn't him offering to put the belt on the line, it isn't even the crowning of a new Number 1 contender, but it's finally something that can logically push this feud on a bit.

It's still almost criminally underwhelming given the stature of the prize that's on offer now but at least this was advancement. The bar, sadly, is just that low at the moment and god knows how long it's going to be before we get the payoff to all of this but we can, if nothing else, start looking forward to a potential ripper match between Dream and Cole.

Saying that though, would it surprise anyone if this is all forgotten about next week and Adam Cole's actually more concerned with Dexter Lumis sticking his nose in it didn't belong? Or hey, maybe he'll start the show that way but still ends up wrestling Rick Bugez in the main event. That would make about as much sense as this week did.
