Surprise returns on Raw and SmackDown are great ways to pop a rating. The retuning hero doesn’t even need to say or do anything, just fire up the crowd and draw in viewers.

But on a premium live event, all you’re doing is getting the fans to pop, especially if the returnee is just showing up to banter with the crowd.

That’s exactly what happened Saturday at Money in the Bank, when John Cena made a shock return to a tremendous reaction from the London faithful. Cena spent the majority of his time playing to the crowd, telling them he was there to make the case that London should host WrestleMania. (Gee, wonder why he’d suddenly start talking about the idea of a massive stadium show in the UK?)

This brought out Grayson Waller, who put down Cena and London, before pitching Australia for 'Mania. This went on for a bit, before Waller and Cena had some conflict, leading to the obvious. Grayson got a bit of offense before Cena put him down with an Attitude Adjustment.

And that was it. No match, no big angle, just a mostly inoffensive segment on a PLE that will be forgotten in a few days. (Now, if it sets up a bigger angle for SummerSlam, we’ll eat those words.)
