While WrestleMania 37 is a two-night event, we still should take our hats off to just the second women’s main event in the PPV’s history.

Sasha Banks versus Bianca Belair closed out Saturday’s show. And while WrestleMania 35 was headlined by a women’s bout, this was the first women’s singles match to main event a Mania, and as Michael Cole, noted, it was the first time two Black women closed the show. (It also very likely is the first time two Black women main-evented any WWE PPV.)

Sure, WWE loves to pat itself on the back, but the thing that’s credit-worthy here is that this was mentioned as a point of fact as the match began, not as a selling point. Race wasn’t part of the build to this championship match – the title and rivalry way the build. It just so happened that both are women and both are Black.

And you could see that the match meant something to Sasha and Bianca, as both women held back tears as the bell rang Saturday. That small, real moment was a nice letting down of the guard.
