There was a lot of speculation over what Stephanie McMahon’s “historic” announcement on Raw was going to be. Would it be women’s tag titles, or something in that vein?

Instead, the Raw commissioner announced an all-women’s PPV in late October. The event, Evolution, would involve title defense for all the women’s singles titles (Raw, SmackDown and NXT), as well as the finals of the second annual Mae Young Classic. It also was announced that there would be 50 women participating, which leaves room for plenty of returning superstars and debuting ones as well.

Additionally, the announcement left the door open for something like new women’s tag titles to be unveiled. Filling a three-hour PPV will require a lot of matches, and only four have been locked down.

After the backlash of leaving women out of the Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia in April, this is a solid effort to make good on evening the score.
