6 Ups And 5 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (June 19)

2. Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

Fair warning: We’re going to hit this from both sides, as there are pros and cons to this development.

Monday night, we got to the bottom of the whodunit, learning who had been attacking Enzo Amore and Big Cass. The answer was simple: Cass was the culprit, faking his attacks and laying out Enzo because he was tired of the motormouth causing problems and (allegedly) holding him back. Cass called him “dead weight” and forcefully ended their partnership, which went way back to NXT.

On the downside, Enzo & Cass should have been the greatest opening match tandem in WWE this decade. They had a perfect shtick that fans were totally into: they open a show with their routine, beat teams below them and occasionally reach a little higher, but their main function would be to pump up the crowd.

That might sound like we’re marginalizing Enzo & Cass, but wrestling has always had acts that have set roles. Not everyone can be a main eventer, and not every act can fire up a crowd. When you find that act, you want to keep them in that role. Enzo & Cass were great at that role, but WWE (more specifically, Vince McMahon) likely sees Cass as a future singles star, so we saw the team broken up Monday night. Bummer.
