Ever since the Bullet Club did its best D-Generation X impersonation and tried to “invade” Raw recently, it’s been a safe bet that references to the faction are taboo. Just ask Jimmy Jacobs.

So why then did WWE have the announcers make multiple references to the Bullet Club (without mentioning it directly) before the AJ Styles/Finn Balor match? And then afterward, Balor and Styles did a “Too Sweet” gesture.

To be fair, WWE extensively referenced the Bullet Club when Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson debuted last year, so this isn’t uncharted territory. But it still feels odd given the rumored reaction of Vince McMahon after the group’s parody of DX’s invasion.

This really isn’t so much of a “down” as it is a head-scratcher. But hey, it’s professional wrestling. Things don’t always make sense.
