6 Ups And 6 Downs From WWE WrestleMania 36 (Part 2)
5. Just A Match
Not every match at WrestleMania can be a barnburner, four-star classic, but if you have a match at the biggest show of the year, you should be doing something to try to make it memorable in some fashion.
Bobby Lashley and Aleister Black had a first-ever match Sunday night, ending with Aleister countering a spear with a Black Mass. The match itself could have been a contest at the top of the second hour of some random Raw, flown in here, and we never would have been able to tell the difference. It was just a normal, run-of-the-mill, subpar match.
Maybe part of that feeling is because there was zero buildup for a match announced more than a week before Mania, but it was impossible to get invested in the match. Even Lana’s involvement at the end – stopping Lashley from hitting the Dominator and insisting he spear Black – was forgettable.
This was a total palate cleanser of a match, one that will be forgotten before Raw airs. At least the right guy won.
