6 Ups And 7 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (May 14)

2. A Humble Acceptance

It’s really strange to see someone known as the “Baddest Woman on the Planet” be humble in accepting a championship challenge, but it also was somewhat refreshing in this case.

Rather than have Nia Jax battle Dana Brooke or another tomato can in the women’s division at Money in the Bank, WWE decided to go all-in and have Nia challenge Ronda Rousey on the red carpet at an NBC event in New York City on Monday.

To Rousey’s credit, she pointed out that she’s only had one match and there are other more deserving women on the roster. Jax responded that she was challenging Ronda, and the Rowdy One accepted (with a little cajoling from Charlotte Flair).

There will be plenty written during the next month about whether booking this match is the right call, but in terms of how it was set up, WWE did it kind of nicely, as a simple challenge issued by the champ to face a former UFC champion. And at least they acknowledged the negatives right away rather than ignoring them.
