4. Taking Advantage Of The Situation

This column has been critical of WWE for suddenly treating Ricochet like just another performer on the roster recently, losing to Baron Corbin last week.

But Monday’s loss to Cesaro is an “up.” Why?

This comes down to smart storytelling. They showed a clip of Ricochet being launched over the top rope in the Money in the Bank ladder match Sunday night, going through a ladder and being taken out of the match. Then he was in the trainer’s room earlier Monday being taped up when Cesaro goaded him into a match, telling the doctor to tape him up.

Throughout the match, Cesaro attacked Ricochet’s back, punctuating it with a gorilla press into a backbreaker before finishing with the Neutralizer. There was a logical story here, set up by recalling last night, pointing to the setup earlier in the day, and then Cesaro paid it off by attacking the back.

Even the announcers helped out by noting that Cesaro talked Ricochet into the match when he might not have been ready. Now, give us a rematch when the One and Only is 100% please.
