6. Manhattan Center Squashes

Oftentimes with these reunion shows, this writer discounts a lot of what happens as being one-offs – these shows are more like standalone episodes than part of the continuum, because they’re disjointed and stuff happens that normally wouldn’t.

Case in point, the two matches that came from the Manhattan Center were essentially squashes that should have been highly competitive bouts. Most notably, Woken Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt have been building toward a big confrontation, and we surprisingly got it Monday night. And just as quickly as it started, the match was over, with Bray hitting Sister Abigail for the win. It was sudden and anticlimactic.

The other squash came with the resurgent Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson toppling the just-returned Revival in a matter of seconds. It’s not so much that the Revival lost – though having them lose so quickly after returning was an odd choice – it was that Reno Riggins & Iron Mike Sharpe could have fared better.

Hopefully, both of these results are aberrations due to the nature of the show, but otherwise, this was a bit of a head-scratcher.
