6 Ups And 9 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (March 18)

2. An Olympic-Sized Match

That might have been a first for WWE Monday night.

As part of Kurt Angle’s farewell tour, he wrestled Chad Gable in singles competition, pitting two former Olympic wrestlers against each other in a WWE ring. Gable donned his old American Alpha gear, even waving a “Ready, Willing & Gable” towel for the full nostalgia act.

Gable and Angle had a pretty decent seesaw match, with Gable working the knee and countering both a German suplex (with an anklelock) and an Olympic Slam (with a DDT). But a missed moonsault ended Chad’s night, as Angle locked in his anklelock and grapevine the leg for the tapout win.

This match also demonstrated how good Gable is, as he helped deliver a fun and compelling match that put both men over. Compare that to Apollo Crews last week, who had a largely forgettable match against Angle.
