6 Ups And 9 Downs From WWE Raw (Dec 2)
6. Stupid Catchphrases
WWE loves their branding and looks to use it whenever possible, even when it’s so awkward that it makes fans cringe in response.
Look no further than Ricochet, who came into WWE like a rocket, flying around like a superhero. Some writer with barely enough brainpower to light a candle decided to turn that “superhero” motif into his entire persona, so now his T-shirts all reference superheroes, and either the announcers or Ricochet himself has to talk about superheroes whenever he’s on screen.
Monday, we got a backstage promo from Ricochet, Humbert Carrillo and Rey Mysterio, and The One and Only started off with a mouthful so horrible that even he looked pained as he said it: “The only thing I’ve ever tried to do is prove that superheroes can be real.”
Uggh. Just UGGH. Who talks like that? No one.
After that, this writer just tuned out and was aghast at how stupid that sounded. WWE, you’re making someone who thinks the world of Ricochet skip over a segment involving him.
