Last week, Sami Zayn returned after 10 months away, only to lose his first match back and then cut an odd, scathing promo.

Monday, he took a different tact, playing to the hometown Montreal crowd during A Moment of Bliss. His entrance music played three times so fans could sing along. He spoke French, and he led an “Ole! Ole Ole Ole!” chant to rile them up more.

And then, Zayn acknowledge he wasn’t playing to the crowd, he simply was playing them. Zayn said he had moved away from Montreal, and that he hated the people of the city. It again was a strange promo, but it worked a lot better with the reaction he got from hometown fans.

Hopefully Sami can build off this with another strong outing next week. We’re still a little skeptical of this direction, but we’ll go week-to-week for now and see where it takes us.
