6 Ways Sheamus Can Resurrect His WWE Career In 2015
5. Stay Babyface, But With More Edge
The above picture is indicative of the positioning of Sheamus in WWE in the last few years. After his babyface turn in 2011, which was handled very well initially with a barnstorming feud with Mark Henry, the Irishman quickly settled into his character as a good guy. He became a nice Irish bloke, the sort of guy who you could have a few pints with at the pub and who could handle himself in a scrap if it came to it. He made corny jokes and generally always just seemed 'happy to be there' in WWE. It's no surprise therefore that Sheamus was one of the superstars used to front 'Be A Star', WWE's anti-bullying campaign. There was even a time when Sheamus was probably second only to John Cena as the company's top babyface. The only problem with all this, is that while the youngest members of the WWE Universe loved Sheamus, most of the older fans quickly grew to hate his smiling attitude. They never went so far as to chant 'Sheamus sucks' like they do with Cena, but it was clear that last thing the audience wanted was another generic, virtuous superhero. If WWE (wrongly) insists on Sheamus staying a babyface upon his return, then a few tweaks to his character need to be made, if only to capture the imaginations of the crowd again. Sheamus should be an ass-kicking, take no nonsense machine, doling out beatings to whichever heel gets in his way or tries to get one over on his friends. WWE should take the approach that they've used with Ryback lately, as he has managed to regain a lot of his stature with the WWE Universe simply by taking some time off and then being booked strongly upon returning. Sheamus is infinitely more talented than Ryback, so he should definitely be able to accomplish something similar.
