6 Ways To Save The Women's Evolution

4. Let Go Of The Past

Yes, some terrible things have happened to women in wrestling. WWE isn't unknown for hiding its sometimes shameful history, namely in the abysmal treatment of women in the Attitude Era and throughout the 2000s.

Even on the most recent episode of Total Divas (additional gripe: this show should exist as a separate entity to in-ring WWE programming if they're going to keep that title), we were reminded that only at WrestleMania 29, an eight-person intergender match featuring The Bellas and the Funkadactyls (the only Divas match of the night) was cancelled mid-show due to time restraints. Three years later, the newly coined 'Women's division' was represented in two matches with a total of 13 performers. Change is here to stay.

As tokenistic and naive as it may sound, we have to keep moving forward if we're going to see a real change that doesn't exist purely on the foundations of sentimentalism and justice. Women are owed a lot for the horrendous treatment and lack of professionalism that surrounded them in the industry for years, and continues to in some aspects to this day. But moreover, they are worthy of a thousand spotlights, and have earned the right to stand on pedestals alongside men in the business. Not because they're women and they've had it tough, but because they are 100% capable of stealing the show time and time again.
