6 Ways WWE Can Salvage Alberto Del Rio

5. A Fighting Secondary Champion

I'm fairly sure this is my get-out plan for all individuals floundering on the WWE roster. The idea is simple and has worked for performers in professional wrestling since the beginning of time (and then some). It works just as well today as it did back in the 1970s and there's no reason it shouldn't be implemented in 2016.

Secondary championships are made for this sort of thing. Rather than having a champion who cheats their way through defence after defence after defence, why not allow the champion to actually prove themselves and defend the title cleanly on a frequent basis? The John Cena US Championship Open Challenge proved the value of this, so why not try it with someone like Del Rio?

If Del Rio were to win the Intercontinental Championship (coincidentally the only championship to elude him in WWE thus far) and defend it in lengthy TV matches against the likes of Apollo Crews, Kalisto and Shelton Benjamin, he would be legitimised whilst legitimising the title in the process. This seems like a no-brainer.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
