6 Ways WWE Can Salvage Apollo Crews

1. Give The Man A Character

Professional wrestling isn't really as complicated as we would like it to be. The moves we see inside the ring may have evolved far away from the bear hugs of yesteryear, but at the core of it all pro wrestling hasn't changed. We as fans want to see characters taking on characters, personalities doing battle against personalities.

Apollo Crews doesn't really have a character or gimmick. He is a nice guy who can wrestle extremely well, a physically gifted man who smiles a lot and would probably help you out moving apartment if you needed assistance. He is an absolute must in any group of friends, but pro wrestling isn't the social world.

In a world where shows like Breaking Bad, The Wire and Dexter are so immensely popular, the virtuous vanilla babyface hero isn't going to be successful. Viewers need something more, something a little deeper, they need to be shown the shades of grey behind the individuals onscreen.

NXT started doing this with Crews with sit-down interviews, and something along those same lines could help Crews find his feet with the WWE Universe. Time is on his side, but it would be a travesty if WWE managed to miss this can't-miss prospect.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
